Knot of the Month

Earning the James E. West Fellowship Knot

The James E. West Fellowship recognizes individuals who make a significant financial contribution to support Scouting’s mission. Named after James E. West, the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, this recognition honors donors who contribute at least $1,000 to a local council’s endowment fund. The contribution may be made through a personal gift, a family donation, or even be given in someone’s honor.

Recipients may wear the James E. West Fellowship Knot on the Scout uniform, symbolizing their commitment to ensuring that future generations have access to quality Scouting programs. Many councils also allow units, families, and friends to nominate deserving volunteers by making a qualifying contribution on their behalf.
