The Santiago Creek Greenway Alliance has a grant to work on the Santiago Creek where it runs through the City of Orange. This is a volunteer group. The Greenway Alliance primarily works on eliminating invasive plants and cleaning trash. They also have an adopt a tree program where a tree is planted and the adopters are responsible for watering the tree until it is viable on its own.
They meet every second Saturday 9 – 11AM at the Santiago Creek where it crosses the Cambridge Bridge (590 S Cambridge St).
Anyone is welcome to come help during the cleanup sessions.
If scouts are interested in working on a project with the Alliance, or on the Santiago Creek, the scout should first come to a Saturday work day to meet the group and see what is currently being accomplished.
Not only is this is an opportunity for conservation service hours, but it will also be a potential group with which to do Eagle and Conservation Award projects.
